Just like other employers in the nonprofit, public, and private sectors, libraries need to ensure that job descriptions accurately reflect the work being performed, that pay practices are equitable and competitive, and that staff understand how their roles contribute to the library’s mission. As libraries continue to evolve to meet the changing needs of their patrons, maintaining clear, consistent, and up-to-date job documentation and pay structures is critical to supporting recruitment, retention, and employee development.
We recently worked with Cincinnati & Hamilton County Public Library to review and update all of their job descriptions and conduct a comprehensive compensation study to ensure internal equity and external competitiveness.
Cincinnati & Hamilton County Public Library serves its community by connecting people with the world of ideas and information. The Library values free, open, and unrestricted access to its collections and services. They are committed to connecting our customers to the ideas, information, and materials they wish to explore in a friendly, nonjudgmental manner. The Library values all customers and is responsive to their service needs.
We were pleased to collaborate with Human Resources Director Kyla Hardin and her team throughout this project. She shared:
Partnering with Organizational Architecture to revise our job descriptions and conduct a compensation study was an incredibly valuable experience. Their structured, data-driven approach gave us the clarity we needed to ensure our positions were accurately defined and aligned with the organization’s goals.
OA helped us modernize every job description to reflect current responsibilities, required competencies, and expectations for performance. Their compensation analysis provided us with a clear understanding of where we stand in the market and gave us actionable recommendations to strengthen pay equity and competitiveness.
The OA team was thorough, professional, and easy to work with. Their guidance has allowed us to build a stronger foundation for our HR programs, making sure our staff are recognized and rewarded fairly for the important work they do every day.
