Our latest success story highlights our executive search partnership with the Michigan Library Association [MLA], one of the most respected state library associations in the country. Founded in 1891, MLA advocates for Michigan’s libraries and library professionals through leadership, advocacy, and professional development.

When MLA’s Executive Director announced plans to retire, the Board of Directors recognized the importance of identifying a leader who could steward the organization’s mission during a period of strategic growth and transition. Given MLA’s expansive role—spanning advocacy, statewide programs, and member engagement—the Board sought a trusted partner with deep experience in nonprofit executive recruitment and a nuanced understanding of the library sector.

Organizational Architecture guided MLA through a comprehensive national executive search that balanced broad candidate outreach with a highly selective evaluation process. From initial role profiling and stakeholder consultation to structured interviews and finalist presentations, our team ensured that every step was transparent, rigorous, and aligned with MLA’s strategic priorities. The Board benefitted from our targeted outreach, thoughtful candidate screening, and tailored communication strategy throughout the search process.

After months of collaboration and careful deliberation, the MLA Board unanimously selected Dillon Geshel as the association’s new Executive Director. Geshel had served as Interim Executive Director since May 2025 and demonstrated steady leadership, deep institutional knowledge, and a clear vision for MLA’s future. His commitment to advancing advocacy initiatives, supporting member engagement, and strengthening organizational capacity made him the ideal candidate to lead MLA into its next chapter.

The successful placement of MLA’s Executive Director reflects Organizational Architecture’s proven approach to executive recruitment—one that combines strategic insight, deep sector expertise, and a commitment to exceptional client service.
